One of the greatest aspects of America is the ability of it’s people to attempt to affect change in society, government, and law. We can fight back against that which oppresses us. And we have a duty to do just that.
On June 2, 2018 there will be a protest rally and march in Oakland, CA. This is a chance for the voices of sex workers and the entire Consensual Transactional (CTS) Community to be heard.
This event will include a rally, press conference, and march. It is being organized by Bay Area Pros Support (BAPS) & the St. James Infirmary, two of the leading organizations in the fight for the rights and safety of sex workers in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I want to encourage all of you to attend this event if you are able. The more people who take part, the more impact it can have. On a purely practical level, politicians only pay attention to numbers. Showing up and being part of the crowd is a chance to make a visual impact that cannot be ignored by those in power.
We in the CTS community to be public in our efforts to change the laws and society’s view of us. Complaining in the dark will not bring us into the light.
I understand it is rather short notice. I only recently found out about the event. I wish that I could have known earlier, since I won’t be able to attend due to a schedule conflict. But if you have the chance to go, please do. Please be a part of this protest. Make your voice be heard.
